Canggu Bike Wash

Is ceramic coating worth it for a scooter?

Updated 8 October 2026 by Canggu Bike

Short answer

A ceramic coating is worth it if you keep the bike for a year or more and want to protect the paint and plastics from Bali's sun and salt air. It is not worth it if you sell soon, or if the paint is already badly damaged. It makes washing easier but does not make the bike scratch-proof.

When it is worth it

  • You keep the bike for a year or more.
  • You park outdoors or near the sea.
  • You want the bike to stay glossy and easy to wash.
  • The paint is in good condition and you want to keep it that way.

When it is not

  • You sell the bike within a few months. A Signature or Showroom Detail is better value.
  • The paint is deeply scratched or faded. A repaint comes first.
  • You do not want to hand wash the bike carefully afterwards.

What it cannot do

A ceramic coating is not a shield. It adds a harder layer that resists fine marks, dirt and UV, but a key scratch or a fall will still damage the paint. It also needs good preparation, because it locks in whatever is under it.

The cost

In Canggu we charge IDR 1.4M for a small bike. See what a ceramic coating costs in Bali.

Alternatives

A wax or sealant gives a shorter, cheaper protection. Our comparison of ceramic, wax and sealant helps you choose.
