How to restore faded plastics and black trim on a motorbike

Updated 8 October 2026 by Canggu Bike

Short answer

Wash and dry the plastic, then apply a dedicated trim restorer in the shade with a clean applicator and wipe off the excess. Avoid greasy silicone dressings on seats, pedals and tyres. In strong sun, repeat every few months and park in shade to slow fading.

Why plastics fade

UV light and heat dry out plastic and rubber, leaving them grey and chalky. In Bali's sun, scooters and motorbikes show it within a year or two if they live outdoors.

Step by step

  1. Wash the plastic with a pH-neutral shampoo and a soft brush.
  2. Rinse and dry fully.
  3. Work in the shade, on a cool surface.
  4. Apply a trim restorer with a clean applicator pad in thin, even layers.
  5. Wipe off the excess and let it cure as the product says.
  6. Test on a small area first.

What to avoid

  • Greasy dressings on the seat, pedals, footboards and tyre tread, which make them slippery.
  • Heat guns, which can warp the plastic.
  • Harsh cleaners that stain or dry the plastic further.

How to prevent fading

  • Park in the shade or use a breathable cover.
  • Wash regularly to remove dust and salt.
  • Use a UV-protectant trim product every few months.
  • Ask about a ceramic coating for plastics, which we offer as an option.

Can I use silicone spray on motorbike plastics?

Use it with care. Never on seats, pedals or tyre tread, because it makes them slippery.
