How often should you wax a motorbike?
Wax a motorbike about every one to three months in Bali, a paint sealant every three to six months, and a ceramic coating needs no waxing. If water no longer beads on the paint, it is time to reapply. Strong sun, salt air and frequent washing shorten the intervals.
Intervals at a glance
| Protection | Reapply |
|---|---|
| Wax | Every 1 to 3 months |
| Paint sealant | Every 3 to 6 months |
| Ceramic coating | No waxing. Maintenance spray as advised |
The water bead test
After a wash, watch how water behaves. If it forms tight beads and rolls off, the protection is working. If it spreads in flat sheets, reapply.
What shortens the interval
- Parking in direct sun all day.
- Parking near the sea.
- Washing every week.
- Harsh detergents.
How to apply wax
- Wash and dry the bike.
- Work in the shade on a cool surface.
- Apply a thin layer with a foam pad.
- Let it haze as the product says.
- Buff off with a clean microfibre.

Frequently asked questions
How often should I wax my scooter?
About every one to three months in Bali, or when water stops beading.
Can I wax a matte bike?
No. Use products made for matte paint only.
Is wax or sealant better?
Sealant lasts longer. Wax gives a warmer shine but needs reapplying more often.
Do I need to wax a ceramic coated bike?
No. A coating provides its own protection.
